In Gruissan, the overcrowding of coastal areas and the consequences of climate change (more frequent storms, sea level rise) are having a negative impact on the reproduction of the bird species found in the area. The association Aude Nature therefore designed a project to convert the former Campignol salterns into a Natura 2000 protected area. The creation of small islands away from the coast has provided substitute shelter for local wildlife, more and more of which has been attracted to the site each year. The adaptation of coastal wetlands is not only a solution for protecting the coastline, it also helps to preserve biodiversity.
